Fell Twp. — While (click here) most of her neighbors rolled out of bed to find ankle-deep slush outside, Suzanne Kornutiak and her friends strapped on bike helmets.

“It’s not uncommon for us all to do this, though,” she said at a table in Frank’s Place in Simpson, near the trailhead, after their ride. “It’s just kind of the bike culture, and we’re passionate about it.”

Kornutiak and cycling buddies Alaina Dietz and Cindy Copley met by way of their bikes. Last year, they started the Keystone Composite Co-ed Mountain Bike Team for school-age cyclists, grades six to 12, to train the next generation of riders.

“We love riding. We love the aspects of racing and the camaraderie of it,” Copley said. “We thought, ‘Let’s get a team together.’ ”...
