Wall Street management of Labor in the USA is draconian and has been over the past 45 years.

This is really simple. When unions CONTROLLED labor in the USA, citizens got respect. I know there are all kinds of blaming that goes on with 'the idea' of unions. I am not saying they are perfect, but, they are necessary.

Unions are power. They influence elections, don't they? That is power. One cannot be scared of it, but, embrace it as the only means of protecting citizens from a failed economy.

Union leaders have not been excluded from prosecution when there was corruption. No one has to accept that as a means of maintaining representation in employment.

Unions demand value for their members. That means they are paid more than minimum wage, receive benefits to insure their well being and that of their family and their happiness. In return, employers receive well prepared employees without having to worry about anything else. See, unions earn their dues. They don't just make themselves known at the time of contract negotiations. They honor their members and the employees with preparedness.

There was one time in the USA when people were valued as people and not human resources. The country was important to people and the businesses that called it home. Forty-five years ago the disregard to human life as it exists today would have been ridiculed. An employer like that would be run out of town. There would never be any understanding that government was bad. Never. Employers had to respect the people that worked for them. Reputation meant something. Today, reputation is nothing. Walmart is a prime example of that. They don't care about their reputation, they can spend money on 'image building,' so why worry about reputation?

Modernization and automation were tolerated by unions when it meant safer working conditions, but, the error of mechanizing jobs while eliminating employees was recognized as a shrinking market share and immoral to the status of a company holding no responsibility to the USA economy they coveted.

Being an American company meant something and contributing to the wealth of the nation was important. American companies were granted status and dignity.

I can't believe the arrogance of what occurred this Thanksgiving Holiday. Every store that was open on Thanksgiving and some were open at 6AM with price tags stated as reflecting Black Friday prices, disrespected the American family. Thanksgiving isn't about pilgrims or massacred Indians that finally gave in to a peaceful existence, it is about family.

Between the graph and the noted degradation of American values it is easy to state; Wall Street and Republicans have had an interesting relationship. We complain about outsourcing as an easy method of CEOs to win their bonuses and that is true. We can point to the moronity of it all, as it removes wages from the American worker that diminishes the market share of global interests. But, what is rarely discussed is the degradation of the American workplace, it's assault on family values and American values and their profit taking at the expense of all we value. See, CEOs are profiting off the removal of unions from the American landscape, but, they are also profiting when they consolidate 'time off' into 21 compensatory days.

Sometime in the 1990s all of a sudden employers were lumping holiday time, sick time and vacation time into one bundle of time off with pay. They took away vacation days and made them into sick days basically. Those compensatory days or whatever they are called were able to be carried over from year to year if they weren't used, so there was incentive in that. Employers didn't have to worry about time off for their employees, except, if requested or call-ins as sick days. Employers also didn't have to pay time and a half or double time when employees were required to work on holidays.

CEOs have earned their bonuses on the backs of Americans. They did it without conscience and frequently latent anger of unions. They have earned their bonuses by outsourcing American jobs, degrading the pay scale most people work for and by disintegrating American traditions into compensatory time rather than national holidays.

They have also destroyed the 40 hour work week and use part time employees and/or temporary workers to carry out their business activities. It is not unusual anymore for a person to work for five years here and then five years there without any understanding or incentive to stay with one employer to build a pension and benefits.

Currently, the reason companies are using to justify their lack of moral content in their employment, is the fact "Obamacare" is causing it. Nonsense. It was simply a convenient excuse, just like the excuse for outsourcing jobs or eliminating holiday pay or consolidating all time off into a compensatory time bank. It all comes down to how much respect does the American work force receive.

There is no fear here. The unionization movement now within the USA is some of the most healthy activity by citizens I have witnessed in a long time. Citizens have a choice and it is important they make that choice; either become a third world nation with a degraded work force without hope for their future or the future of their children or stand up for yourselves.  Unionization is a way of standing up for yourself.

Kindly remember a fact that is always ignored because of Wall Street Propaganda. GM lost market share because it outsourced jobs. It had nothing to do with unions, except, it's CEO despised them. Companies are making record profits while poverty increases in the USA and Americans are asked to work without a comprehensive strategy for retirement or savings or purchasing a home. For many Americans, Social Security is the only method of planning for old age.

When people worked decades for a company the future was easy to picture, but, today with the lack of respect of the American worker, the future is far too abstract to actually plan for a strategy that will be sustainable. Jobs are inconsistent over a lifetime and pay is not necessarily increased from one job to another.

We, as a national workforce, have to reclaim our dignity and identity. Simply 'having a job' is not good enough. Outsourcing American jobs is a cop out for real vision for a company and how a market is going to be generated in other countries in order to build market share and not simply transfer it to another impoverished work force. If Wall Street continues this they won't have any market share in any country, everyone will be living subsistence lives.

Americans have to put their faith back in unions and demand import taxes on goods that are the backbone of our economy. If we don't do this now, our children will never realize a birthright of education and homeownership. The draconian practices of Wall Street has to end and replaced with decent pay and benefits with the help of unionization.

It is a fact, as union memberships diminished so did the Middle Class and now Wall Street wants our dignity and identity as well. I certainly hope Americans still have enough self-respect to stand up for themselves.

If you think my benefits were pie in the sky, draconian and unrealistic, then check this out:

Holidays, time off, sick leave, maternity and paternity leave (click here) Is that in the USA? No. That is an ally, the United Kingdom.

Happy Thanksgiving for those lucky enough to have shared it with their entire family. I wasn't one of you.

We had 401Ks and not pensions. For some that didn't work out well, especially after 2008.

Up against a determined effort (click here) to curtail state employees' retirement benefits, Illinois' unions are staging an all-out campaign to thwart approval of a breakthrough proposal to solve the state's $100 billion pension crisis, specifically targeting a small contingent of moderate Senate Democrats.

The effort includes plans to flood lawmakers' offices with retirees this week as they return to the Capitol beginning Monday, in addition to an ongoing phone campaign aimed at members of both the House and Senate.
On the opposing side, all four Illinois legislative leaders and Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn are engaged in an equally feverish campaign to secure support for the $160 billion savings plan, which could be called for a vote Tuesday in a special legislative session. Union leaders say they're focusing on rank-and-file lawmakers after being ignored by state leaders who announced the compromise deal last week....
This kind of stuff is heartbreaking. They were promised and now their promises are being broken. It isn't okay that President Obama broke his promise, but, it is fine if Republican lawmakers break their promises.

This isn't necessary. It is convenient and it proves that unions are nothing when it comes right down to it, so why trust them in the first place and to think they actually pay dues.

My dues as a full member of the union was 1 percent of my earnings. If others chose not to join the union they didn't have to, but, they were required to pay 0.5% (one half of members) of the dues. Why? Because they received all the benefits of the contract. Everyone was equal, union and non-union. There was no arm twisting, either. Members received representation and non-members didn't.

Did unions do anything else?

Well, how about "Administrative Leave Days?"

Eligible employees may be granted administrative leave to participate in specified activities.

Specified activities meant attending training, education or meetings that included professional recognition and/or requirements within the profession.

As a shop steward, I went to annual meetings in Washington, DC. Of course it was fun and it was all paid for. Heck, even traveling expenses were reimbursed. But, important stuff took place there. Seminars, education, credentialing, state of the art presentations in applied areas of interest. There were opportunities everyday at lunch to meet those in the organization. It was nice.

I received administrative leave days of 12 hours in length. In other words, I would have 36 hours total of ALD. The idea was that traveling time was important, too.

Administrative Leave Days had to be requested with proof of the specific activity and if not used were relinquished at the end of the year.

Our union was proud of it's members and officials. We were professional. We carried brevity as both an employee and union member. The union sometimes ran seminars during the year to bring important information to employees. There were times management wanted to attend the seminars, but, it was by reservation only on a first come, first serve basis. It prevented the entire membership from taking the day off.

But, none of these day were meaningless and made us more valuable to our employer. Not only that, but, it also kept us valuable in the employment market place, so when asking for increases in pay, it was pointed out we were better prepared and more valuable than any other candidate in the market place. And it was true. We were valuable and maintained that status and it was effortless.

Our professional status never diminished when employed under a contract and we were encouraged to be leaders in our profession as well. It was nice. Why? Because Administrative Leave Days kept us at home on our days off and involved with our families rather than using days off to accomplish knowledge and skills that benefited our employer. We were fairly happy folks. So was our employer. Few problems that manifested into any emergency or disharmony.

But, what about vacations? No?

Oh, yes.

Earned 1 day per month. As an employee there were 12 vacation days. Vacation days were five per week recognizing weekends were off. Vacation days had to be taken every year. HAD TO BE. It was felt by the union all employees needed down time, recognizing how dedicated a professional can be to their good paying job and profession.

So, it got interesting long about November when there were people that hadn't taken any vacation time yet. Sometimes it required bringing staffing in to fill the work schedule. But, it was fun. Twelve days starting with the first year of employment, when weekends are added is nearly 2 and 1/2 weeks. Nice. I rarely took it all at one time, but, some in the Spring and then sometime in September or October.

I usually worked through the summer. I was a shop steward and felt an obligation to others to receive the time off for family vacations together. I liked autumn. Still do. But, the boys and I always got off season rates no matter where we went and we had a good time even if I had to help them with their take along homework everyday, except, weekends.

What else did unions bring? Besides better pay and benefits.

Personal Days and Sick Days

Sick leave and personal days are a form of employment benefit in the form of paid time off for illness or to deal with a personal/private matter. Since nearly everyone occasionally needs such time off, all businesses should have a clear policy established regarding sick leave and personal days. A sick day is fairly self-explanatory and can be used for everything from a common cold to a more serious illness that could require hospitalization or even surgery. Personal days can cover things like the illness of a child, a death in the family, jury duty, military obligations, or religious holidays. Most companies also allow vacation time for employees in addition to their set amount of sick leave and personal days.

I earned my sick days at 1 and 1/2 days per month, while 3 personal days were granted every year. Sick Days were cumulative over the lifetime of employment, but, unused personal days were relinquished every year.

They were important to both the employee and management. If an employee could provide advance notice of a personal day in anticipation of a parent's need to be driven to let's say a doctor's appointment, the smooth function of the unit was guaranteed. It prevented deception. No personal day needed an explanation to be granted it, but, simply the request when possible.

The sick time was 18 days per year. Most folks saved them in case they were needed. They were also banked at the time of retirement for half the salary of the retiree.

What did unions bring to the work force?

When I was working as a shop steward there were significant benefits:

To begin there were 14 paid holidays. If I had to work on those holidays I received time and a half overtime pay.

In the United States, a federal holiday is a public holiday recognized by the United States government. Non-essential federal government offices are closed. All federal employees are paid for the holiday; those who are required to work on the holiday sometimes receive wages for that day in addition to holiday pay. Currently, there are eleven U.S. Federal holidays, most (but not all) of which are also state holidays. When a holiday falls on a weekend it's usually observed on the closest weekday.

Union contracts protected American's identity and integrity.

This is from the Huffington Post (click here).

It is the decline of union memberships in the USA. The red line are unions, the blue line is the decline of Middle Class Share of Income.

This graph has been discussed for some time now. Probably ever since the Occupy Wall Street movement and the phrase, "income inequality" was coined.

What Americans often don't recognize is the inch by inch loss of dignity and identity. Slowly but surely over the past 45 years the American people have been lied to and deceived to relinquish their national identity and the dignity of their worth. Along with the degradation of their 'income share' they have also lost holiday time and a reverence for 'family holiday.'

Then in 1971 the two separate holidays were homogenized into one.

The act reduced two national holidays in February into one. One was less disruptive to Wall Street and cheaper. Back in the day, national holidays were paid holidays in most businesses.

The act was coined to the public as "President's Day" as more equitable to all Presidents, rather than just two. For the most part the public bought, but, again there was that public voice dissenting to the degradation of the national holiday, it's meaning and celebration.

...the holiday (click here) became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present.

The Uniform Holiday Bill was the initial degradation of the American Culture to benefit Wall Street.

There was controversy even in 1968. The idea of a three day weekend appealed to the public for the most part. But, there were the nay sayers stating it was dishonoring the holiday and the reason for it. In retrospect, realizing where we are today, the nay sayers could not be more correct.

342 - Statement by the President Upon Signing the Uniform Holiday Bill. (click here)
June 28, 1968

This bill provides that three of our national
holidays will be celebrated on Monday:
--Washington's Birthday on the third Monday in February,
--Memorial Day on the last Monday in May,
--Veterans Day on the fourth Monday in October. The bill will take effect on January 1, 1971. State legislatures will thus have time to act for observances in local government offices and in private employment.

This will mean a great deal to our families and our children. It will enable families who live some distance apart to spend more time together. Americans will be able to travel farther and see more of this beautiful land of ours. They will be able to participate in a wider range of recreational and cultural activities.

The bill also establishes Columbus Day as a Federal holiday--to be celebrated on the second Monday in October. Thirty-four of our States have already established a day honoring Christopher Columbus. It is fitting now that we give national expression to our faith in the spirit of discovery embodied by this great adventurer. This new holiday will henceforth honor one of our finest and most cherished national characteristics--our ability to live and work together, men and women of all national origins, as one united and progressive nation.

The provisions of this bill insure a minimum of five regularly recurring 3-day weekends each year for Federal employees. The costs will be offset to an important degree by avoiding disruptions of Government business through Monday observance of holidays.

The private employer will enjoy similar gains in efficiency. The Monday holiday will stimulate greater industrial and commercial production, sparing business and labor the penalty of midweek shutdowns.

Note: As enacted, the bill (H.R. 15951) is Public Law 90-363 (82 Stat. 250).
This is Green Day's "Holiday" (click here)

It is more Gen Xer than Madonna, but, Madonna is correct. Rest and relaxation are the rewards of work. Without rewards there is little to celebrate, more tension and shorter lives.

I only need to refer to "Type A" personality to validate that fact.

 It's Sunday Night

Holiday, Celebrate
Holiday, Celebrate

If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
Just one day out of life
It would be, it would be so nice

Everybody spread the word
We're gonna have a celebration
All across the world
In every nation

It's time for the good times
Forget about the bad times, oh yeah
One day to come together
To release the pressure
We need a holiday

If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate (Come on, let's celebrate)
Just one day out of life (Holiday)
It would be, it would be so nice

You can turn this world around
And bring back all of those happy days
Put your troubles down
It's time to celebrate

Let love shine
And we will find
A way to come together
And make things better
We need a holiday

If we took a holiday (Holiday)
Took some time to celebrate (Come on let's celebrate)
Just one day out of life (Just one day out of life)
It would be, it would be so nice

Oh, Yeah, Oh, Yeah
Come on let's celebrate
We have got to get together

Holiday (Ooh, yeah, ooh, yeah) Celebrate (Come on let's celebrate)
Holiday (Just one day out of life) Celebrate (It would be so nice)

Holiday, Celebrate

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

I think it is time to discern the problems created by the law and the problems created by the private sector. The insurance companies have become completely indelicate regarding the people they are covering and that is nothing new. No one hesitated before the law was passed to point to the disastrous problems within the health care system in the USA. I would expect those seeking the best outcomes, which resulted in the law, of American health continue to call out the lousy actions of the insurance companies. There are no short list of complaints.

The federal government website. I am glad so many state websites are up and working. There are some states still experiencing late start ups due to incomplete webpages. However, as to the federal website and it's capacity one has to begin to look at this realistically.

When realizing the potential volume, which was never planned for when the law was passed, there becomes an unrealistic view of the world. There are something like 30 states that are not participating, so it falls to the federal government to make up for their lack of participation if we as a country are sincerely compassionate to all our citizens.

I want folks to think about that. There are 310 million Americans. How many are in those 30 states?

I don't believe the government website should be any larger in capacity than it is now. If citizens are having trouble logging on, I am not surprised and neither should they be. The fault of this aggravation falls directly on their state for not setting up their websites.

One of the frustrations MODELERS to computer systems (and I am most familiar with the Climate Crisis and understanding Earth) have is the ability of the system they are building to carry large capacity while allowing room for activities within their computer systems. In other words, every aspect of memory and otherwise can be completely utilized which will cause the system to become inactive. Right? Average Americans with computers know that. There is that commercial, what the heck is the name of it?

PCMatic (click here) has those commercials where the computer is slow and the women in the commercials are always complaining, "I have to restart it alot." Right? By the way the website for that program is lying to consumers, nothing is free except the initial analysis that makes a consumer crazy with the idea they have virus and otherwise and only see this program as their savior. It is very deceptive advertising. If PCMatic really wanted to provide an incentive to purchase their programs then provide a completely free one time trial offer to see if indeed they can do the job. That is off topic, but, I don't endorse anything about this product in it's present advertising practices.

Back to the idea of the federal government computer site for health care insurance.

The capacity of the website, although it really isn't the website that has capacity so much as the HARDWARE of computers used to operate the website. The website is the software and the hardware operates the software, right?

The hardware has limits. It just does. Okay?

One of the realities to Modelers seeking to understand Earth is the idea of Supercomputers. Supercomputers are banks of computers and computer capacity that allows modelers to input data as a baseline understanding of the process of the Climate Crisis. Pretty daunting thought, isn't it? Imagine a computer that actually has algorithms written to mimic Earth processes. Intimidating and I congratulate every such Modelers that even attempted to meet the challenge. These are ongoing processes within their computer banks that reveal what Earth is going to look like. It is not an easy task at all to program Geo-physics of a living system the size of Earth. It is complicated as Earth has many layers of troposphere, ocean and land. Altitude. Then add into that there are living beings altering that content on a moment by moment basis. Incredible to think these systems exist and they are working to their capacity to predict. I haven't met a Modeler that is ever finished programming those computers.

Now, take all people in those 30 states and realize there has to be capacity for those people and additional people who are coming into the age of majority everyday. That also is a rather daunting task. As a matter of fact one of the easiest reference right now is the supercomputer center built to accommodate the national security state, the NSA. It is an entire complex of buildings and computers and capacity.

That is what we are looking at if a computer system is to exist that carries the capacity needed to provide services to the population of 30 states.

Now, I don't want to be a party pooper here, but, enough is enough. How many supercomputers is the USA government going to build?

I congratulate President Obama for taking on this challenge and succeeding to the capacity he has been able to provide service to Americans without health insurance. Heroic. Nothing short of.

But, the law becomes law in January. There may have been delays to that because until President Obama got involved there was NO capacity to the website. But, sooner or later and hopefully sooner every American has to be covered by health insurance that will prevent disease and treat it when it occurs to insure longevity and protect the wealth they build.

Americans cannot rely on the private sector to protect them. The private sector has to be regulate and provide options outside the private sector. Now, I have been hearing a lot of stuff that makes no sense to me. One of the complaints is that people on Medicaid now will lose their insurance because now they have to get insurance through the exchanges. That is not the case. Those qualified for Medicaid and SCHIP now will continue to be qualified because of their low income. If ANY such threat is made to a citizen it needs to be litigated with charges equating to that level of fear in those most dependent. That has to be citizens facing ongoing therapies now. They cannot have their therapies interrupted.

There is a dynamic within ETHICAL healthcare called "Continuity of Care." It is paramount to the practice of most physicians, hospitals and their nursing staff. If "The Continuity of Care" is interrupted to any citizen already receiving therapies, there needs to be lawsuits filed against the appropriate insurance company. And there may very well be criminal charges that have to come to bear. Just that simple.

From here forward, citizens are important people to the health care system and not simply a commodity.

The people have to realize just because there is now law to regulate the access to health care insurance; the private sector is not going to stop their shenanigans. It is up to the people to bring their experiences forward to continue to build a competent and compassionate and cost effective health care system. It is possible. I know it is possible. It needs to be a goal to every hospital system in the country.

But, as to the federal computer website, it has limits. It is going to continue to have limits and I advocate paper applications or telephone applications (with copies to customers for their records)
filed with income tax information every year there are subsidies used to pay for healthcare. It protects the citizen and the US Treasury. Oversight will be reasonable when records are kept together. Having paper applications and/or telephone applications also lends itself to better confidentiality. The information can't be hacked. There is no computer system that can't be hacked. I could never have the ability to hack a website or computer, but, there are plenty of folks who can.

It is time for the nation to enjoy their holidays, have peace of mind and prepare for January. I think we are doing okay. I hear HHS is suggesting non-prime time for better access. I suggest the nation take that advice and know when it doesn't apply to their lives. Rather than complaining about the computer application and whether or not it is keeping information; take the initiative to overcome any computer short falls in expectations. The system was over sold. I am not convinced those hired to build this computer capacity actually gave the government a realistic picture as to what is possible.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES and your future.

Nightmares. The USA is not suppose to be about nightmares. That is why we practice redundancy in safety and SPEND the money for INSURANCE to that safety. Redundancy to safety MARGINS are part of the USA infrastructure or at least it used to be.

Metro-North’s Thanksgiving Holiday Service (Nov. 27- Dec. 1) (click here)

This is a vital rail service well known to New York and New York City. This is not a minor incident. People have had confidence in this service to make it the most ridden commuter rail in the country. So, there has to be an investigation to the cause. It is uncharacteristic of this commuter service and it has to be treated as a crime until otherwise known.

It is the second busiest commuter railroad in the United States in terms of monthly ridership, only behind its sister railroad, the Long Island Rail Road. Metro–North runs service between New York City and its northern suburbs in New York and Connecticut, including, in New York State,Port JervisSpring ValleyPoughkeepsie, and Wassaic; in Connecticut, New CanaanDanburyWaterbury, and New Haven. Metro-North also provides local rail service within New York City with a reduced fare.

Rescue workers rushed (click here) to the Metro-North train derailment on

Sunday, just  outside of the Spuyten Duyvil Station.

I haven't seen any closed circuit video yet. That is probably part of the

investigation, if it exists. This doesn't happen by chance, especially in New

York. There is either tampering, age and/or negligence. I certainly hope the

rail service is NOT balancing potential danger with budget cuts. If that is the

case then those not recognizing the need for prompt and timely maintenance

of a vital public service needs to held in ridicule and responsibility. This is

outrageous. I would expect New York especially to realize lives are not to be

bargained with for the sake of politics, state or national budgets.

I expect the NTSB to treat this with brevity without politics so much as sheer

reality.

People need to be held responsible. I can't believe this has happened.

My sincerest and deepest sympathies to the families and friends at a time of

year that is suppose to be joyous. And we have to get through Sandy Hook

besides. The USA's landscape is being nightmare. I want to know why!
