There used to be a CHEMICAL FOAM TRUCK at Dow in Bound Brook

DOW is still there. They have state of the art fire equipment. They have to for the operation they have. I don't know how the Plant Manager will view sending it to Seaside Heights and leave the plant without it's foam truck, but, he might be able to shutter some of the operation there to provide help.

New Jersey has a lot of interesting companies with interesting equipment. The Governor needs to send out a request for EXPERTISE. There are few PhD Emergency Managers in the country, but, it would be worth a try. There used to be some large companies along Route 1.

The Casinos. They have to have some kind of fire equipment. They are multi-story.

There are tired firefighters besides. And the Governor might want to move the journalists a safe distance from danger. I realize he has no fear, but, there are limits.

A lot of these towns have volunteer firefighters, too. Not that they aren't trained well, but, they could be overwhelmed by the enormity of it.

SEASIDE PARK, N.J. — A fire (click here) that started at a New Jersey frozen custard shop in Seaside Park, N.J., and spread to other boardwalk businesses, including FunTown Pier, destroyed much of an iconic boardwalk just rebuilt after Superstorm Sandy.
Emergency personnel arrived at the boardwalk in Seaside Park for a report of smoke about 2:30 p.m. A plume of gray smoke stretches as far north as Ortley Beach, N.J., as fire crews fight to douse the blaze. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
The fire that started at Kohr's Frozen Custard quickly compromised buildings on the west side, including what was left of FunTown Pier — the site of the roller coaster that was pushed into the ocean during Superstorm Sandy. A strong wind has worsened the firefighters' attempts, Police Chief Francis Larkin said...

It started as a inferno. The fire may be too hot for water. Water evaporates and this might be wood, but, the fire will sizzle the water off the fire and it won't smother it.

I think foam is the only thing that will finally stop it. It has to be smothered and robbed of oxygen.

Maybe several water drops from the ocean. They just have to make sure there aren't divers or small boats at the water pick up point.

I don't know that there is much to say about Helms. He was in the Senate a long time, arguably incompetently.

He is the South when the South was Post Civil War and North Carolina had a viable Sons of the Confederacy. The CSA (Confedeate States of America).

Everyone thinks of the Rebel Flag as being the flag of the Confederacy, but, that is not the case. The Rebel Flag was a battle flag, not the sovereign flag.

Helm's North Carolina was tobacco fields, cigarette producers and military bases. Textile mills and the difference between that and the tobacco slaves was the color of their skin. The Poor White Trash that were owned by the mills. They were white, but, they were as slaves as any of any black man after the Civil War.

Very ugly history. History Helms never visited so much as implied. The right to fire anyone at any time, basically "The Right to Work" laws are all based in impoverishment and keeping people 'in their place' and manageable. The Southerns became masters of enslavement Post-Civil War.

So, I am not surprised his name made it's way to the surface. It has been a short period of time since Helm died and yet North Carolina is still sifting through it's bigotry and oppression. Oppression is long lasting. One can say that Helms is responsible of the lack of work to North Carolinians today. The economy of Helms is gone. The mills are closed and outsourced. The tobacco industry can't poison people's lungs anymore.

The military towns are still intact. Helms built a mini-USA in North Carolina. Every branch of the military, except, NASA. Helms could not wrench the space program from Houston. But, in actuality where would he put it? He had the nukes already at Cherry Point, he was just missing the ICBMs. But, in a pinch I am sure he could convince Pope Air Force Base to act in emergence if necessary.

He was a mean man that enjoyed being mean. He was the poster child for Dirty Harry and "Make my day." He is indefensible. He was a horrible human being that was loved by the people of North Carolina for all the federal monies he could skim from the treasury. Basically, that's it. He is not glamorous. He was a horrible person in every aspect of the word. Why discuss Helms? Makes no sense to me. Someone whats to emulate him and bring his politics back to life? Then Senator Cruz is best thought of as a foreign born Senator as he'll have to go to China to find Helm's economy.

The good news is...?????...there is no good news.

UNISYS Water Vapor North and West Satellite (click here for 12 hour loop - thank you)

California is getting some unexpected water vapor, that is good news considering the Rim Fire is still only 80% contained.

There are three deaths in Colorado.

Torrential rainfall in Colorado (click here) has caused three deaths, destroyed a dam, and prompted massive road closures. The Colorado National Guard has been activated.

By Katherine JacobsenContributor / September 12, 2013

Torrential flooding in northern Colorado has resulted in at least three deaths, mudslides, multiple road closures, and the destruction of one dam. The resulting high water levels are impeding search and rescue teams from reaching stranded residents and motorists in the Boulder area northwest of Denver....

The heat island from last week that occupied it's own tropospheric vortex with aerosoled sea spray has attracted it's own tropical storm.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle (click here) hit at Bermuda with wind, rain and rough surf early Wednesday as its center passed near the wealthy British territory, a day after reforming over the Atlantic.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm's center was about 40 miles (65 kilometers) west-southwest of Bermuda early Wednesday and moving northward with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph).

Government authorities had urged people in the storm-hardened Atlantic territory to finish last-minute preparations, and some residents left work early. Customers crowded into supermarkets to buy candles, batteries and other emergency supplies.
"Gabrielle has proven somewhat unpredictable and so I caution everyone to take this storm seriously and to prepare for the forecast conditions," Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley said....

See, it takes water vapor to catch heat and develop a circulation center that then gains velocity to become a huge storm or even a smaller tropical depression. Earth is so dry it takes aerosoled water vapor to get the dynamics going. Then when the storm has delivered water into the troposphere is larger dynamics than the aerosoled sea spray it spawns larger storms with higher velocity like the one off Africa headed this way. Sort of where Sandy landed last year but perhaps a little more north.

Swelting temperatures throughout most of the nation is making work by road crews and outdoor workmen and women nearly impossible and certainly threatening.

Their employers need to hand out cooling collars to be worn about the neck, sunscreen, salt tablets and water WITH instructions as well as descriptions of heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The best instruction, "If you don't feel well, call 911." PLEASE.

And Tropical Depression 10  at the Yucatan Peninsula was assisted to circulation by the Florida air mass that gathered there a few days ago heading west across the state. This area has already been hard hit by a previous Tropical Depression Fernand killing 14 people.

More than a dozen people (click here) have died in eastern Mexico, in landslides triggered by heavy rain caused by tropical depression Fernand.
Thirteen people were killed when mud engulfed their homes on hillsides in Veracruz state.

Another man drowned after being swept away by fast-flowing floodwaters in neighbouring Oaxaca.

Fernand made landfall near the Atlantic port city of Veracruz on Monday and weakened as it moved north-west.

Veracruz Governor Javier Duarte has asked the federal government to declare an emergency in 92 municipalities, so they can receive recovery funds....

Could immigration reform be more than an American humanitarian effort, but, an actual boom for our economy?

With such a great American movement to bring home our immigrants, how is it Republicans simply ignore the legacy of providing rewards for the most ambitious among us?

..."The Davis Chamber (click here) has taken a position in support of immigration reform and we embrace the concepts set forth in the Utah Compact,” said Jim Smith, President and CEO of the Davis Chamber of Commerce. “The economic benefits of meaningful immigration reform are significant, while the downside risks of ignoring the problem only get worse over time. Our message to our Washington, D.C. delegation has been consistent for years - this issue is important to all Americans and needs to be addressed NOW. We encourage all involved to set aside partisan politics and work together to find a meaningful solution in this congress"...

Welcome to the Davis Chamber! (click here)

The Chamber was originally formed in 1905 by a few local businessmen, in order to attract the University Farm School (now known as UC Davis) to this agricultural community. The “town-gown” relationship has been a strong and vital one ever since....

I am in agreement with the US House in shutting down the government.

DEFUND THE MILITARY!

WASHINGTON | Wed Sep 11, 2013 8:02pm EDT

...The move in the House of Representatives (click here) is the latest indication that a revolt by conservative Republicans is complicating Congress' efforts to deal with looming fiscal deadlines over government funding and the federal debt limit.
The delay pushes Congress closer to the September 30 deadline for approving new government funding. With conservatives demanding a tougher stance on defunding and delaying President Barack Obama's signature healthcare legislation, known as "Obamacare," the chances of a shutdown appear greater.
The conflict is part of what is being called by some analysts a "civil war" within the Republican Party, energized in part by rallies and Tea Party gatherings during the August recess and the organizing efforts of the conservative Heritage Action, a sister to the conservative Heritage Foundation....

Think I am joking? Check out Secretary Lew's letter. (click here)

...The government makes approximately 80 million payments a month, including Social Security checks, military salaries, Medicare reimbursements and many others...

The main objection to the Vocker Rule is that it will tie up liquidity. Really?

Do you know how much easily accessible money (click here) you have in the form of cash and equivalents? This is a measure of your liquidity.

So, liquidity is money people use to pay for lunch. Sometimes they don't use liquidity, they use credit as in credit cards.

The banks are complaining that a rule to live by will drain them of their lunch money. Not their INVESTMENT money, but, the kind of money that can purchase small operations to drain off middle management, consolidate debt, maybe even eliminate debt if the debt is owed to the bank that is buying them out, reduce labor forces while reducing a tax base.

That liquidity?

You mean instead of buying off and crashing an entire economy the banks might have to use their liquidity for loans to the businesses short on liquidity.

Excuse me, but, the accounting firms for the CEOs complaining about liquidity problems if RULES go into effect need to be audited. Why? That's an easy one.

"What is Quantitative Easing?" (click here)

See, I know the banks and all those greed merchants like Goldman Sachs and Citibank are pulling in huge amounts of LIQUIDITY from QE1, QE2 and the ongoing QE3.

There are no liquidity problems anywhere and if the CEOs and Greed Merchants are stating there is, then they are grossly misinformed or simply lying. Imagine that the Great Wall Street companies of the DOW lying.

There is absolutely no reason to postpone the Volcker Rule or any other rule. The politics are dense, I am quite sure, but the Peasants and an entire generation of their children await.

This is "Stericycle." Their incinerator is a threat to clean air.

There is no reason for this level of air pollution in the USA. Their emissions endangers neighborhoods. This is similar to the soot covered elementary schools near coal plants.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - Stericycle claims (click here) emergency bypass events like the one caught on camera Friday only happen a couple of times a year, but nearby residents say even then it's way too often. During a press conference Wednesday concerned citizens, Utah Moms for Clean Air, HEAL Utah, Greenaction and Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment asked Governor Gary Herbert to use his executive power to shut Stericycle down....

Greater problems await all of us.

Wall Street has been running a campaign and strategy against the Volcker Rule since it was written. It is the tail waging the dog. Somewhere Wall Street got the idea they don't have to answer to anyone. They have the idea the world is their oyster. I don't think so.

Goldman Sachs has decided to stop hiding among the little people and just list with the DOW

By Jia Lynn Yang, Published: September 10

The closely watched Dow Jones industrial average (click here) got a tuneup Tuesday, with Bank of America, Hewlett-Packard and aluminum producer Alcoa dropping from the benchmark group. The companies will be replaced by the financial firm Goldman Sachs, athletic apparel maker Nike and payment processor Visa.

S&P Dow Jones Indices, which decides what companies are in the 30-firm index, said Bank of America, HP and Alcoa were let go in part because their stock prices were too low....

There is nothing like being among the elite and out of reach of average investors. Above it all. They don't need rules, they know what is best, they even pick and choose who is the best. They don't need rules, they just need money and competition to drive the money into sequestered holdings to protect from the little people. They have to watch out for those peasants after all, they might actually think and not follow in million-billionaire obedience. It is best for the peasants to have guns to make them feel powerful.

...The rule, named after former Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, (click here) in theory restricts the types of speculative bets banks can make for their own benefit and with their money, as opposed to their customers' money. Technical term alert: This is called “proprietary trading."

But as the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, Wall Street pressure and intense political infighting among regulators have delayed the rule's completion. One meeting between regulators and bank representatives involved a (presumably excruciating) “two-hour discussion of a single phrase relating to ‘market making,’” according to the WSJ. The final version of the Volcker Rule could be more than 900 pages by the time it's done.

To Smith, the idea often pushed by Wall Street types, that the rule would hurt liquidity -- or the ease with which assets can be bought and sold on the market --- is a “false argument to stifle the Volcker rule,” according to a five-point agenda provided before the meeting and documented in the memo.

Elizabeth Warren introduced a new Glass-Steagall bill to stop Wall Street banks from gambling with the life savings of regular families.
Elizabeth Warren joined the PCCC to push for this during her campaign -- and she's delivering! Watch her on MSNBC and sign the petition, which we'll deliver to Congress.
