Third World Happiness is Low Expectations

There is a consistent IGNORANCE in the science of hydraulic fracturing when it comes to the sources of pollution.

The fracking chemicals are made to dissolve rock. That means there is a chemical reaction between the rock and the injection fluids.

You know chemical reaction like this:

Al3             +          SO4          =          Al2(SO4)3 (Aluminum Sulfate)

The fracking fluids alone are not the problem. The fracking fluids AND the rocks in a chemical reaction are the problem, TOO. In other words dissolved rock interacts with the injected chemicals and they also help produce poisons in the water and air.

The Marcellus Shale is composed of these rocks.

Quartz - SiO2

Illite - [(K,H3O)(Al,Mg,Fe)2(Si,Al)4O10[(OH)2,(H2O)]

Montmorillonite - (Na,Ca)0.33(Al,Mg)2(Si4O10)

Muscovite - KAl2(AlSi3O10)(F,OH)2

Biotite - K(Mg,Fe)
3
(AlSi
3
O
10
)(F,OH)
2

Todorokite - (Na,Ca,K,Ba,Sr)1-x(Mn,Mg,Al)6O12·3-4H2

Trona - Na3(CO3)(HCO3)•2H2O

There is Potassium, Aluminum, Silicon, Magnesium, Iron, Sodium, Barium, Strontium, Maganese and Calicum in the Marcellus Shale.

Some of these are isotopes and are radioactive. There is OH which is a hydroxide and Oxygen which is O.

They are highly reactive rock. Shale rock was formed from decaying organic matter. They are often considered to be carboniferous rock. Oddly enough carboniferous rocks are known to be a good sponge for carbon dioxide. In other words what should be injected to the shale rock is carbon dioxide in a form of sequestration.

Ironic the use of the shale is actually to allow the emission of methane a more potent greenhouse gas that produces CO2 as well.

The lawsuits need more investigation to present to the judges involved because the petroleum industry didn't care about human life and sure as heck didn't disclose ALL the chemicals involved in the pollution it created.

The shale itself has outcrops like this one. It is a pretty color grey, but, it is easy to tell there are significant minerals in it because it has a shining surface. Sometimes nature just screams to leave it alone.

Marcellus shale exposure above Marcellus, N.Y. The vertical joints create sheer cliff faces.

It doesn't matter if fracking fluid is recycled to use less water and remove fluid from the damaged bedrock the migration into drinking water won't stop.

Recycling and prevention are two separate issues.

Recycling is about using water.

Prevention is about protecting water supplies for human AND wildlife consumption.

Injection wells cause seismic activity and somehow the idea is out there that if the industry removes the liquids from the well the seismic activity will stop.

NOT.

There will still be seismic activity and SUBSIDENCE that we always see with oil drilling. Same thing.

Oh, that 3000 feet from drilling well thing. If there is a new well every 2.9 miles in the USA, where is any housing development NOT going to be effected by the lousy stuff?

Third World Happiness is Low Expectations

These are the test results in Air and Water.

Methane 19 mg/liter

Potassium at 8 to 18 times higher than considered safe for human exposure

Chloride at 18 time higher than considered safe for human exposure

Glycols

Alcohols

2-butoxethanol

Benezene up to 50 higher than considered safe for human exposure

Hydrogen Chloride

Hexane-3,4-dimethyl

Pentane,2,4-dimethyl

dimethyl means here are two 'methyl' molecules on the atom not WITHIN a chain or carbons. The numbers 2 and 4 show where the extra methyls are attacked. Starting at the left it is 1 then there is 2 and then 3 without an extra methyl and then 4 and finally the end of the chain of carbons.

The molecule is highly reactive because of all the hydrogens (H) hanging on it. This is also an ORGANIC molecule. Carbon and hydrogens are organic atoms. The organic molecules react easily with human body chemistry.

There are MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for all these chemicals (click here)

2,6-Dimethyldecane

2,4-bis(1-phenyl)-phenol

Biphenol A

Terpineol

5-Hydroxmethul dihydrofuran

Limonene

Toluene

None of them belong in a water supply or airborne. They are lethal. They are being found consistently in contaminated well water of methane injection wells.

The US EPA has stated if your drinking water well is within 3000 feet of a gas well it will be contaminated. The gas itself will migrate in fractured rock.

Third World Happiness is Low Expectations.

In order to understand the effects of all the gases together, scientists tend to talk about all greenhouse gases in terms of the equivalent amount of CO2. Since 1990, yearly emissions have gone up by about 6 billion metric tons of "carbon dioxide equivalent" worldwide, more than a 20 percent increase.

A molecule of methane produces more than 25 times the warming of a molecule of CO2.

Nitrous oxide is 300 times more powerful than CO2.

Below is an explanation from Yale University and their frustration with the manipulation surrounding sound science that paints a grim picture for our planet.

...Carbon dioxide equivalence (click here) is a simple way to normalize all these greenhouse gases and other climate influences in standard units based on the radiative forcing of a unit of carbon dioxide over a specified timeframe (generally set at 100 years).

For example, one ton of methane would be equal to 25 tons of CO2-eq, because it has a global warming potential 25 times that of CO2....

There are other estimates that are higher:

Methane is up to 105 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas on a 20-year timescale. (click here)

Losses of up to 9% show need for broader data on US gas industry’s environmental impact. (click here)

Jeff Tollefson

Scientists are once again reporting alarmingly high methane emissions from an oil and gas field, underscoring questions about the environmental benefits of the boom in natural-gas production that is transforming the US energy system.

The researchers, who hold joint appointments with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Colorado in Boulder, first sparked concern in February 2012 with a study suggesting that up to 4% of the methane produced at a field near Denver was escaping into the atmosphere. If methane — a potent greenhouse gas — is leaking from fields across the country at similar rates, it could be offsetting much of the climate benefit of the ongoing shift from coal- to gas-fired plants for electricity generation....

Methane is like CO2. It also is produced by natural processes.

Methane's processes are a little different, but, it is naturally produced. We are never going to run out of methane EVEN if we leave the stuff the petroleum industry drills IN THE GROUND.

Naturally occurring methane is mainly produced by the process of methanogenesis. This multistep process is used by microorganisms as an energy source. The net reaction is:
CO2 + 8 H+ + 8 e → CH4 + 2 H2O
The final step in the process is catalysed by the enzyme methyl-coenzyme M reductase. Methanogenesis is a form of anaerobic respiration used by organisms that occupy landfill, ruminants (e.g., cattle), and the guts of termites.

It is uncertain if plants are a source of methane emissions.

So

Methane. A hydrocarbon gas produced both through natural sources and human activities, including the decomposition of wastes in landfills, agriculture, and especially rice cultivation, as well as ruminant digestion and manure management associated with domestic livestock. On a molecule-for-molecule basis, methane is a far more active greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, but also one which is much less abundant in the atmosphere.

Both CO2 (carbon dioxide) and CH4 (methane) are exceptionally stable gases. Hence, they are excellent partners in cooperating with an atmosphere which allows biotic content. It is that stability that creates the problem. I am not suggesting we should be toying with greenhouse gases, that would sincerely screw up Earth. But, what I am saying is that concentrations will do their job and the higher the concentrations of these gases the hotter it gets within that thin blue line we call an atmosphere.

Third World Happiness is Low Expectations

CH4

Methane (CH4) is the second most prevalent greenhouse gas emitted in the United States from human activities....

...Globally, over 60% of total CH4 emissions come from human activities....

That hockey stick graph of CO2 that the Right Wing likes to play with and ridicule didn't happen just with CO2. The graph below is methane.

Little did scientists affiliated with global warming ever expect the USA to allow a greater emission of methane in lieu of carbon dioxide. But, low and behold here we go again.

After the industrial revolution there was an increase in global atmospheric methane concentrations. In the past 200 years methane concentrations have increased from approximately 620 to approximately 1700 ppb (figure 4). The radiative forcing of methane has also increased. (click here)

If anything can turn my head is talking numbers.

1.2 million NEW fracking wells in the USA alone.

The USA alone has an area of 3,536,290 square miles of land in the lower contiguous states. That means the petroleum industry plans to place 2.9 square miles.

That does not account for the existing wells, just the news.

The USA is not the largest country in the world. Russia has 6,232,482 square miles of land and is considered the largest country in the world.

Canada is next with 3,511,023 square miles of land, the largest country in the Americas. Canada including water areas is 3,855,100 square miles.

China follows with 3,694,959 square miles of land.

The USA follows in behind China.

I hope I can finish this tonight oddly enough 8:30 PM is approaching and my connection is acting up. Yes, I paid my bill.

This is the second time in a week this has become an issue. No, that is not correct. The third time and never before.

I had to turn it off for an hour in order for the jerks to stop harassing my computer. No lie. Amazing.

I've listened to Gasland 2 at least twice and took in the information and visuals. I then listened to every aspect of the film with intent to destroy it. I couldn't do it. The facts are correct.

As I listened for exaggerations and myths I heard a Texas legislator state something that made more sense to me than anything I've heard before.

As Texas Representative Lon Burnham in Gasland 2 states, “Upper middle class people with college degrees are getting ticked off because they’re being treated the way that third world people have always been treated by corporate America.”

Texas Representative Lon Burnam has introduced HB 379. It is a good beginning.

Hydraulic Fracturing isn't about ad campaigns. It is about encouraging ignorance with the seductress named greed.. Time is on the side of the petroleum industry.  As long as the government and people remain dumbed  down the longer the petroleum industry's time line to profits without regard for the damage to the country. When the country finally gets around to regulate and bring trials and fine the companies will be out of business or near to it.

SOP.

The term dumbing down describes the deliberate diminishment of the intellectual level of the content of schooling and education, of literature and cinema, and of news and culture. The idea of and the term dumbing down originated in 1933 as slang, used by motion picture screenplay writers, to mean: “revise so as to appeal to those of little education or intelligence.”

The Bush/Cheney administration was the governing of low expectations.

Ten years have passed since then president George W. Bush signed No Child Left Behind (NCLB), making it the educational law of the land. A review of a decade of evidence demonstrates that NCLB has failed badly both in terms of its own goals and more broadly. It has neither significantly increased academic performance nor significantly reduced achievement gaps, even as measured by standardized exams.

In fact, because of its misguided reliance on one-size-fits-all testing, labeling and sanctioning schools, it has undermined many education reform efforts. Many schools, particularly those serving low-income students, have become little more than test-preparation programs.

It is time to acknowledge this failure and adopt a more effective course for the federal role in education. Policymakers must abandon their faith-based embrace of test-and-punish strategies and, instead, pursue proven alternatives to guide and support the nation’s neediest schools and students...

Here is a lesson for the Right Wing Zealots

Remember that measure included in the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act? Well, three of those that wrote the bill are no longer in office. Dent is the only remaining idiot still in the House.

Enemy Expatriation Act

In January 2012, Lieberman co-sponsored the Enemy Expatriation Act (HR 3166 and S. 1698) a proposed law in the United States also sponsored by Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) and Representatives Charlie Dent (R-PA) and Jason Altmire (D-PA). The bill would allow the United States government to strip US citizens of their citizenship if they participate in terrorism, defined as "providing material support or resources to a Foreign Terrorist Organization, as designated by the secretary of state, or actively engaging in hostilities against the United States or its allies". In early 2012, the proposal was compared to the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act, and some writers have suggested that the two laws could be used together to take away citizens' civil liberties. If passed, the bill would add to the circumstances under which US citizenship can be lost.

I swear the military hates fish.

George Bush used sonar that destroys the hearing of Marine Mammals. You know the ocean going creatures that use sonar of their own to swim the world's oceans.

Then recently Putin thought he'd win favor with Japan by standing his ground on creating a Marine Protected Area in Antarctica.

Now this. The fish bother no one. The oceans were these species live. Like, what goes on already? There was also that USA military boat that got caught on a coral reef and had to be cut into pieces to get it off the coral reef. Hello?
Someone needs to give Joint Chief Dempsey an appreciation course in marine biology.

Two US fighter jets have dropped four unarmed bombs in Australia's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park when a training exercise went wrong.(click here)

July 21, 2013

The two AV-8B Harrier jets launched from aircraft carrier USS Bonhomme Richard each jettisoned an inert bomb and an unarmed explosive bomb in the World Heritage-listed marine park off the coast of Queensland state on Tuesday, the U.S. 7th Fleet said in a statement on Saturday.
The four bombs were dropped in more than 50 meters (164 feet) of water away from coral to minimise possible damage to the reef, the statement said. None exploded.
The jets from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit had intended to drop the ordinances on the Townshend Island bombing range but aborted the mission when controllers reported the area was not clear of hazards.
The pilots conducted the emergency jettison because they were low on fuel and could not land with their bomb load, the navy said.
The emergency happened on the second day of the biennial joint training exercise Talisman Saber, which brings together 28,000 U.S. and Australian military personnel over three week.

What did these animals ever do to you?

It would seem the government is afraid of the people to the point of passing unconstitutional laws.

It just seemed to me as long as marching was on agenda this might be a threat to peaceful protests.

RT broke the news last month that H.R. 347, the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011, had overwhelmingly passed the US House of Representatives after only three lawmakers voted against it. On Thursday this week, President Obama inked his name to the legislation and authorized the government to start enforcing a law that has many Americans concerned over how the bill could bury the rights to assemble and protest as guaranteed in the US Constitution.

Under H.R. 347, which has more commonly been labeled the Trespass Bill by Congress, knowingly entering a restricted area that is under the jurisdiction of Secret Service protection can garner an arrest. The law is actually only a slight change to earlier legislation that made it an offense to knowingly and willfully commit such a crime. Under the Trespass Bill’s latest language chance, however, someone could end up in law enforcement custody for entering an area that they don’t realize is Secret Service protected and “engages in disorderly or disruptive conduct” or “impede[s] or disrupt[s] the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions.”...

I suppose when Democrats occupy a building as in Wisconsin and Texas in order to be heard, it is a real issue for the folks in DC. And don't forget "Moral Mondays," too.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011’’.
SEC. 2. RESTRICTED BUILDING OR GROUNDS.

Section 1752 of title 18, United States Code, is amended to read as follows:

‘‘§ 1752. Restricted building or grounds

‘‘(a) Whoever

‘‘(1) knowingly enters or remains in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority to do so;

So ever said orderly conduct of government was more important than the right to assemble? Where is that written?

‘‘(2) knowingly, and with intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions, engages in disorderly or disruptive conduct in, or within such proximity to, any restricted building or grounds when, or so that, such conduct, in fact, impedes or disrupts the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions;

This is exactly the problem we face as Americans. We cannot be heard because government is to busy conducting business and official functions important to Wall Street and everyone else on the crony rolls. Now, when the public is aggrieved by the oppressive laws of the government there is no voice.

‘‘(3) knowingly, and with the intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions, obstructs or impedes ingress or egress to or from any restricted building or grounds; or

‘‘(4) knowingly engages in any act of physical violence against any person or property in any restricted building or grounds; ...

 (4) was an interesting one to throw in there as if it really was necessary. Did the House of Representatives get tired of naming Post Offices, so they threw a little redundancy in there for effect. Sort of like a trial run of the real thing.

...or attempts or conspires to do so, shall be punished as provided in subsection (b).

‘‘(b) The punishment for a violation of subsection (a) is—

‘‘(1) a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more than 10 years, or both, if—

‘‘(A) the person, during and in relation to the offense, uses or carries a deadly or dangerous weapon or firearm; or

‘‘(B) the offense results in significant bodily injury as defined by section 2118(e)(3); and

‘‘(2) a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more than one year, or both, in any other case.

‘‘(c) In this section—

‘‘(1) the term ‘restricted buildings or grounds’ means any posted, cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area—

‘‘(A) of the White House or its grounds, or the Vice President’s official residence or its grounds;

‘‘(B) of a building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting; or

‘‘(C) of a building or grounds so restricted in conjunction with an event designated as a special event of national significance; and

‘‘(2) the term ‘other person protected by the Secret Service’ means any person whom the United States Secret Service is authorized to protect under section 3056 of this title or by Presidential memorandum, when such person has not declined such protection.’’.

Does anyone want to guess how many Secret Service Offices there are in the USA and abroad? (click here)

There was somehow a gap in the understanding that assaults on the President and Vice President carry weight in this country? Now, simply being in the vacinity is a severely punishable crime. I don't know if that is a reflection on the Secret Service or the country, but, someone better take this through the court system to challenge any understanding of assembly.

This may be a reaction to the new flow of weapons in the country due to Stand Your Ground, but, there is verbiage in this that threatens protests.

If the Secret Service finds the state's liberal gun laws a threat where they ordinarily would have control, that needs to be discussed in a public hearing of an oversight committee of both legislative Houses.

...Mara Verheyden-Hilliard (click here) of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund tells the International Business Times that the Trespass Bill in its current form “means it's easier to prosecute under 'knowingly,'” instead of both knowingly and willfully, “which is an issue because someone could knowingly enter a restricted but not necessarily realize they are committing a crime.” Speaking with IB Times, Verheyden-Hilliard tries to lay to rest claims that the Constitution will be crippled by the Trespass Bill, but acknowledges that it does indeed allow law enforcement to have added incentive to arrest protesters who could be causing a disturbance....

...And before you forget, the president can now detain you for getting too close to his front yard, order your assassination if the country considers you a threat and lock you away for life with no charge if you’re alleged to be a terrorist. You, on the other hand, can’t yell obscenities at Newt Gingrich without risking arrest.

There is a larger picture to look at and the dangers of misdirection of the movement.

I love the picture, but, I do not believe there was an evolution of Reverend Al Sharpton. I don't think he has changed one bit since earlier days. He has always been dedicated and a lightning rod. I admire him and believe in his insight.

That said.

The Rev. Al Sharpton (r.) is joined by Sybrina Fulton(c.) as he speaks to the crown during a 'Justice for Trayvon' rally in New York Saturday. Mr. Sharpton's National Action Network organized 'Justice for Trayvon' rallies nationwide.

Mary Altaffer/AP

Overwhelming Peaceful. Just because FOX News commentators were terrifying the nation about a radically violent Black Community doesn't mean that is the truth. I recall Reverend Sharpton calling for marches, not pillaging and plundering. Somehow the 'devil in the air' is thicker than the worst pea soup. It is a joy to point to that reality, however, let's get into the issue of violence as it attaches to Young Black Men.

The protests (click here) against the verdict in the George Zimmerman murder trial so far been overwhelmingly peaceful – and the rallies in more than 100 cities nationwide Saturday were no exception....

The larger picture is actually the reality of the Black Community and their children. That reality is HOPELESSNESS and HELPLESSNESS.

Young African American people growing beyond the church school and seeking an identity in the American Landscape don't find it there. Yes, there are magnificent Black Universities that provide incredible and enviable educations, but, what happens then? AND more than those that obtain a university education, what comes of the young Black person that does not come away from the defined life of oppression and left behind?

I strongly believe the USA media is very guilty of labeling our minorities. That labeling includes African American Men and Women as well as setting 'commercialized' standards unrealistic for women. And quite frankly instill absolute violence in the definition of American masculinity. It is those 'images' applied to human beings in the USA that actually become a dominant stereotype to define our politics. Those stereotypes are self-righteous.

If I may?

An African American Male is violent. No option. No kindness. They are loaded for bear all the time and will kill to steal the pennies in a victim's pocket. That is the stereotype those young men in the cities across this country have to overcome to move within our society. It is hideous and serves no purpose in this country. There is no reality there. At all. HOWEVER, when a young man is trapped in that stereotype and experiences failure after failure in our country, there is ONLY ONE TRUTH THEN. That truth is then defined by the brothers in prison stating, "Didn't I tell you there was no other option."

Following the experience of that reality and pledging to that truth, that only begins to explain the prison populations.

Where is the opportunity for these young men? Where is the outreach that provides them good paying jobs with dignity within that definition? Working a job at Walmart while their children receive Medicaid and Food Stamps is no dignity for any person in this country. It is a survival without promise of a future.

HOPELESSNESS lines the African American populations in the USA. It is growing and as there are larger populations of minorities so grows the hopelessness that defines their lives.

This is not 'mind speak' I have experienced it first hand. My time working within minority populations was alarming. Not fulfilling. Sure I went home at the end of the day believing my work made a difference, but, it was not fulfilling. Surrounded my life was failure of a country that victimized the very people I sought to serve. I could have accepted a paycheck and washed my hands at the end of the day and still have believed what I did was worthwhile, but, it wasn't possible to disregard that immorality. I left the city behind and went home to dearly loved sons in a perfect world, but, how did I justify that reality measured against those I served?

Days where I had time on my hands was spent with young African-American men, my younger, to understand their lives, the anger and the hatred. It is not a pretty picture.

They want what everyone else wants. They watch the same commercials, the same programs everyone else watches, but, where can they achieve the rewards? They had no choices and I would hear stories about carjackings and robbing car parts to finish their own work on a car they brandished as a status symbol. When I would state, aren't you worried about the police or prison? They laughed and stated; "Ya have to have someone willing to turn you in and witness the crime before that happens." Don't tell me the desperation of these young men, they are all too real.

The stereotype becomes the reality and in all honesty what chance do they have to change that? Over and over again in very subliminal ways they are told they are not worth the effort to raise them out of their lives of oppression. Make no doubt about it, this is oppression of minorities in the USA. They don't want this as a life, but, they accept it.

All over the USA there are African American communities whereby time in prison and on the outside is the same paradigm. Prison is not a punishment, it is a dimension. The larger society of the USA has failed. We have grossly failed the young minorities and have victimized them.

Now, parents who made a life for themselves and have their young people on the right track face opposition of the NRA and loose gun laws. The OPPRESSION continues. Where does it stop? When do magnificent citizens of this country such as Sybrina and Tracy find 'gun safe' neighborhoods? Is there a respite for any minority parent from the chronic assault of the judgement of their race, their attire, their deeply held beliefs and having their children in a society that victimizes their very person at first sight? I haven't witnessed it yet.

African American citizens have shorter life spans. Chronic stress will do that.
