the app uses a person's geographical location anywhere in the country
to determine if there is danger of a dust storm, or any other type of
storm, in the area. The warnings come directly from the WeatherBug
service. In addition to storm alerts, the app provides a list of specific tips for what to do when a dust storm hits, such as:
Do not drive into or through a dust storm.
Do not stop in a travel lane or in the emergency lane.
Look for a safe place to pull completely off the paved portion of the roadway.
Turn off all vehicle lights, including your emergency flashers.
The app also offers a place to list emergency phone numbers or
insurance policy numbers drivers may want to have readily available in a
storm, as well as a list of things people should keep in their cars as
part of a Dust Storm Survival Kit. Some of those items include water,
snacks or energy bars, a basic first aid kit, flashlight, dust mask and a
whistle or pocket siren to signal for help....
...Of five hardline candidates (click here) professing unwavering obedience to
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, three are thought to stand any
chance of winning the vote, or making it through to a second round
run-off in a week’s time. Of those three main conservative hopefuls only
one, current chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, advocates
maintaining Iran’s robust, ideologically driven foreign policy.
The
other two, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and former foreign
minister Ali Akbar Velayati, have pledged never to back away from
pursuing Iran’s nuclear program but have strongly criticized Mr.
Jalili’s inflexible negotiating stance. They face a single moderate
candidate, the only cleric in the race, Hassan Rohani. Though very much
an establishment figure, Mr. Rohani is more likely to pursue a
conciliatory foreign policy....
This Monday June 10, 2013 photo provided by the Nevada Highway Patrol

Winnemucca, Nev. (AP Photo/Nevada Highway Patrol)
June 11, 2013 By Michelle Rindels
Twenty-seven vehicles slammed (click here) into each other during a sandstorm that
blinded drivers on Interstate 80 in rural northern Nevada, killing a
truck driver, seriously injuring several other people and sapping
already thin emergency resources, officials said.
Humboldt County
sheriff's dispatchers called in virtually every medical, law
enforcement and fire worker in the sparsely populated area after drivers
reported "near-apocalyptic" conditions Monday evening on I-80 at
Winnemucca, according to officials at Humboldt General Hospital there. A
mine rescue crew also assisted, and a charter bus was used to transport
victims who were uninjured.
"It was kind of surreal," said Jared
Oscarson, captain of clinical services at the hospital, describing a
curtain of blowing dirt that at times hid the crash scene from rescuers'
sight. "There was kind of just chaos and destruction everywhere."...
Looking for previous dust storms in Nevada there is this in the Library of Congress from 1940.
There was one in 2004 found by NASA. A fierce dust storm blew across northwestern Nevada on April 28, 2004,
with winds that gusted up to 70 mph. This image of the blowing dust,
which reduced visibility to nearly zero in some places,...
I believe there was a person killed in that pile up a couple of days ago. I hope that didn't happen because there was little to no emergency response able to reach them.
Kind of scary to think there is such weather conditions that can actually disturb the best plans of emergency services.
How very sweet, FOX News is worried about President Obama's credibility. I can assure them his announcement about Assad's Sarin attacks on his own citizens didn't come from "Curveball." It is okay, Mr. O'Reilly, everything will be fine.
Unprecedented rainfall (click here) and flooding continued to plague central
Europe in mid-June 2013, causing billions of dollars in damage. The
Elbe, Danube, Saale, and other river systems rose well above their banks
and breached flood defenses in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic,
Hungary, and Slovakia. Many news outlets and some government sources
were describing it as the worst flooding since medieval times,
surpassing the devastating floods of 2002 in many areas....
...At the time of the June 7 image, the river stage stood at 6.7 meters
(about 22 feet) in Wittenberg. On June 11, 2013, police shut down the
center of Wittenberg as crews worked to shore up sandbag dikes and other
defenses. The Elbe River was expected to crest again near the city,
following another rainfall over the weekend. Downstream in Magdeburg, the surging river had already burst a dam and forced evacuations
According to the Austrian Meteorological Agency (ZAMG) and meteorologist Jeff Masters,
several months worth of typical rainfall soaked southern Germany and
western Austria between May 29 to June 6. That precipitation landed on
soil that was already soaked from above-average spring rains.
“The primary cause of the torrential rains over Central Europe during
late May and early June was a large loop in the jet stream that
developed over Europe and got stuck in place,” Masters wrote. “A blocking high
set up over Northern Europe, forcing two low pressure systems to avoid
Northern Europe and instead track over Central Europe. The extreme kink
in the jet stream ushered in a strong southerly flow of moisture-laden
air from the Mediterranean Sea over Central Europe, which met up with
colder air flowing from the north due to the stuck jet stream pattern.”
UN report says children are recruited, maimed or raped by government forces and armed groups
Published: 10:32 June 13, 2013 United Nations: (click here)Syrian troops and rebels are recruiting children to
fight in the country’s civil war and some have been tortured by
government forces for having links to the opposition, U.N. chief Ban
Ki-moon said in a report on Wednesday.
The report issued after Ban’s special envoy for children and armed
conflict, Leila Zerrougui, visited Syria in December said thousands of
children have been killed in the violence, “while thousands more have
seen family members killed or injured.”
The United Nations considers anyone aged under 18 to be a child. Ban
said that in Syria, torture and ill-treatment of children accused of
associating with opposition forces was a worrying trend.
“There were a number of accounts of sexual violence against boys to
obtain information or a confession by the state forces, largely but not
exclusively by members of the state intelligence services and the Syrian
armed forces,” the report said.
The G8 leaders will want to avert any possibility of arming a number of different groups of rebels. Such actions would result in escalation ofethnic and sectarian violence rather than a consolidation of rebel authority. The G8 leaders will want to resolve to consolidate an oppositional authority to bring about a coalition government.
Russian President Vladimir Putin (click here)will fly to
Britain a day before next week's G8 summit for talks with
David Cameron on the conflict in Syria, the British prime minister
announced Wednesday.
...The two leaders will meet at Cameron's Downing Street office on
Sunday, before heading to Northern Ireland for the summit of Group of
Eight nations on Monday and Tuesday. "We should use the G8 to try
and bring pressure on all sides, to bring about what we all want in this
House, which is a peace conference, a peace process and a move towards a
transitional government in Syria," Cameron told the House of Commons.
"I'm
delighted to tell the House that President Putin will be coming in
advance of the G8 for meetings in Downing Street on Sunday, when we can
discuss this." Russia, an ally of Syrian President Bashar
al-Assad, has with the United States proposed an international peace
conference to get the two sides in the conflict to the negotiating
table....

Get off the road. Planes, especially small private planes need to rethink their flight plans.
These are the kind of winds that pick up tractor trailers and throw them around the road.

Severe storms (click here) are forecast across Maryland and much of the
mid-Atlantic Thursday afternoon, bringing potential for damaging wind
gusts, heavy rains and flooding, and isolated tornadoes. But the highest
risk for dangerous conditions has shifted to the south.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for
Baltimore and Baltimore, Harford, Howard and Anne Arundel counties
through 7 p.m. A flash flood watch was meanwhile in effect across the
state through 8 p.m.
A few wind gusts as strong as 70 mph are possible, along with an inch
or more of rain, and some isolated tornadoes, according to the weather
service....
Cat One hurricanes start at 74 mph. This is worse than a hurricane. At least hurricanes are sustained winds that can be compensated from, but, straight line winds are not sustained, they are gusts. Wednesday, January 18, 2012
...According (click here) to a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service in
Tulsa, wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour were common in Benton County
on Monday....

Pennsylvania's senators are split on what do to about a key student loan interest rate set to double soon unless Congress intervenes. Democratic
Sen. Bob Casey Jr. backs his party's plan to extend current rates,
affecting subsidized Stafford loans, for two years. But Republican Sen. Pat Toomey is opposed to an extension — as well as to his own party's plan, which would tie student loan rates to a variable rate set by the U.S. Treasury.
The enormous college debt carried by a generation of American neglected by their government for the past decade and faced college graduation with unemployment are unable to contribute to the USA economy besides.
Jun. 9, 2013 4:20 PM ...Richard Cordray, director of the CFPB, (click here) noted in prepared remarks that
U.S. Census data show nearly 6 million Americans ages 25 to 34 lived
with their parents in 2011. It’s estimated that this age group made up
27% of all home buyers in 2011, the lowest share in the past decade,
according to the National Association of Realtors.“Young consumers bowing under large debt loads may be unable or unwilling to buy a car or a home,” Cordray said.

After the initial blast, (click here)clouds of thick black smoke could be
seen billowing towards the sky, visible from a local school.
Flames could be seen rising from two separate locations.
“It looked like a pretty big explosion – it looks like
Williams have taken all the precautions they can do to evacuate
all the personnel.
The firefighters are responding as
needed,” witness Ryan Meador told local station 90
WAFB.
“Everyone evacuated to the road. Everyone is trained for
something like this.”
Meador released witness footage of the fire's aftermath:
