Go Missions to Mexico - Living Conditions

I do believe the people coming to the USA have good reason to do so. They are south of our border, they are poor and they are more refugees than anything else. This mission provides hope in stemming the flow of illegal immigrants as well. If the living conditions of these people improve, including water supplies, clean water supplies, they might not leave so much as eek out a life and community in their native land. The mission work is dangerous, too. Anyone considering this has to really think it through.

The Immigration Act of 1965

In 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed a bill that has dramatically changed the method by which immigrants are admitted to America. This bill is the Immigration Act of 1965. This act, also known as the Hart-Cellar Act, not only allows more individuals from third world countries to enter the US (including Asians, who have traditionally been hindered from entering America), but also entails a separate quota for refugees. Under the Act, 170,000 immigrants from the Eastern Hemisphere are granted residency, with no more than 20,000 per country. One hundred twenty thousand immigrants from the Western Hemisphere, with no “national limitations,” are also to be admitted. The significance of this bill was that future immigrants were to be welcomed because of their skills/professions, and not for their countries of origin. Before President Johnson signed this bill, the Senate voted 76 to 18 in favor of this act, with the most opposition votes cast by Southern delegates. The House voted 326 to 69 in favor of the act.

Mexican Immigrants in the United States, 2008 (click here)

The trend in Illegal immigration had taken a significant increase in the 1970s. I suggest The Immigration Act of 1965 might have portrayed and open door. Once that door was breached there was no stopping the flood of refugees from Mexico that followed. Any new immigration law has to take into account the language  misinterpreted to provide an impetus to this mass movement of people.

It isn't as though the Obama Justice Department and Homeland Security hasn't made an impression on the folks across the US - Mexican border. Republicans like to attribute this to the high unemployment rate. Huh? Their reasoning is there is not enough work for anyone including illegals in the USA. Huh? The work these people do are routinely filled by illegals and not citizens, so how exactly was this work environment changing? We are still growing the same crops and doing the same cheap labor. I don't think the 2008 global economic collapse actually effected illegals, I will go so far as to say they would be more in demand as cheaper labor. I really think the deportation rate is the reason. Seriously.

April 23, 2012 4:00 PM
(AP) WASHINGTON - The number of Mexican immigrants (click here) living illegally in the U.S. has dropped significantly for the first time in decades, a dramatic shift as many illegal workers, already in the U.S. and seeing few job opportunities, return to Mexico.
An analysis of census data from the U.S. and Mexican governments details the movement to and from Mexico, a nation accounting for nearly 60 percent of the illegal immigrants in the U.S. It comes amid renewed debate over U.S. immigration policy as the Supreme Court hears arguments this week on Arizona's tough immigration law.
Roughly 6.1 million unauthorized Mexican immigrants were living in the U.S. last year, down from a peak of nearly 7 million in 2007, according to the Pew Hispanic Center study released Monday. It was the biggest sustained drop in modern history, believed to be surpassed in scale only by losses in the Mexican-born U.S. population during the Great Depression....

I do believe deportation is 'turning off the job magnet' better than any economic indicators.

It is only fair to bring the Obama website to the blog as well. I do believe the Latino community knows where he stands; it is called "The Dream Act."

The Obama Justice Department has been relentless in deporting illegal immigrants.

\
I know the Executive Branch of the government is responsible for carrying out the law of the land. It is one of the primary purposes of that branch of government. However, it might be time to re-assess what would have been done under The Dream Act and provide perspective to this community.

The Dream Act is interesting legislation. It is not new. No different than the Affordable Care Act, they were in the legislative process for a long time. However, it wasn't until Senator Barak Obama became President Barak Obama that "The Dream Act" actually came out of moth balls.

To some in the immigrant community, it appears as though the President is playing politics with their lives. They realize he is responsible for the push to pass The Dream Act, but, at the same time they are facing a determined law enforcement sending them back to their homeland. This community is impoverished and deportation is as much as hardship as first arriving illegally in the USA. Perhaps, President Obama would see himself clear to call a conference of the leadership of this community to talk about their strife and whether or not answers can be formulated such as an Executive Order. If nothing else, it would reinforce the compassion President Obama regards this community.

About three dozen immigration activists (click here) are protesting outside an Obama campaign office in Denver tonight, while two more activists have staged a sit-in inside the office.
The activists want President Barack Obama to sign an executive order ending the deportation of young, undocumented immigrants who would be eligible for conditional permanent residency under the DREAM Act. The activists waved signs and marched in a circle in front of the office, at 77 W. 9th Ave. They said they planned to spend the night in front of the office.

The two activists staging the sit-in inside the campaign office — Javier Hernandez, from Denver, and Veronica Gomez, from California — say they are undocumented and could face deportation if arrested for their protest.

"If that's what it takes, that's what it takes," Gomez said....

This is off topic, but, it only was published about seven hours ago and it relates to "Stop and Fisk, too."

A Los Angeles police officer (click here) stands guard outside Parker Center (L), headquarters for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The number of suspects killed by police in Los Angeles County rose nearly 70 percent in 2011 over the previous year. In two-thirds of cases, the suspect was armed.

The killing of suspects might be up, but, so are the killing of police officers.

The article here is about the entire country, I don't know off hand how many LA officers have been killed in the line of duty in 2010-2011.

There are too many guns on the street. It is just that simple. Officers have a right to protect themselves while carrying out their duties.

There are a lot of civil rights issues being generated and rights that are overrun by authorities these days. "Stop and Fisk" is one of the more disturbing ones, but, these impingements on Civil Rights and over reaching is due to the lack of sufficient laws to prevent officers from being confronted with fire arms more deadly than they carry.

You know in Jamaica the military are also the police of the country and they carry automatic weapons, is that what the USA is coming to or are we going to remove danger from out streets to bring down the defense stand of police officers?

Two officers (click here) in a remote Alaska town were ambushed as they chatted on a street. Two California deputies were killed by an arson suspect with a high-powered rifle as they tried to serve him a warrant. Two other officers doing anti-drug work were gunned down by men along a busy Arkansas highway.

These so-called cluster killings of more than one officer helped make 2010 a particularly dangerous year for law enforcement. Deaths in the line of duty jumped 37 percent to about 160 from 117 the year before, according to numbers as of Dec. 28 compiled by the, The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, a nonprofit that tracks police deaths....

This increase of fire power by police officers has been escalating since the Bush years where we saw barrage of bullets being used in circumstances of unarmed individuals suspect of being armed. I remember reading about a man driving his SUV and having bullets drilled into it because he was mistaken to be armed. Then there was the buffalo killings, remember? Rather than tranquilizers or rangers to show up the poor animals were brutally gunned down.

At any rate, the confrontation between police and citizens is growing and it has been from some time now. There are way to many guns in the USA. It seems fairly obvious to me as the number of guns in the country has increased in numbers, so has dead police officers. I can't think of a better reason to rethink this issue.

Civil rights are important and the insult to them has increased as the number of deaths of officers has increased in correlation with the number of guns in the country. What are we doing and the Second Amendment was never written for this to occur.

The polling firm Latino Decisions (click here) has been tracking Latino voter attitudes in the run-up to the 2012 election for some time now, and the latest temperature check deals with what’s referred to as “DREAM-light,” a yet-to-be-introduced alternative to the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act that is being floated by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.
The poll also checks the temperature on Latino voters’ support for President Obama vs. GOP nominee-apparent Mitt Romney, although there’s no surprise there: As several other recent polls have indicated, Latino voters continue to favor Obama, even in spite of Obama’s recent statement in support of same-sex marriage and some Latinos’ social conservatism.

I am quite certain there are Latinos and Latinas belonging to the LGBT community and their parents support their dream to be married to the person they love. The Same Sex Marriage dream is not exclusively caucasian or African Americans. The Hispanic have a long history of deep religious vigilance, but, in the USA there is freedom, education and understanding beyond the precepts of religion.

Has Romney gotten a Congressional Representative for advise on this one, too?

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (L) and his wife Ann Romney walk across the tarmac after arriving at Miami International Airport January 25, 2012 in Miami, Florida. Campaigning in Florida ahead of next Tuesday's primary, Romney came to Miami to partparticipate in a "Meet the Candidate" forum hosted by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Univision at Miami-Dade College.

This article tells me one thing, that Romney isn't interested in resolving the immigrant problem. Not really. He is simply looking for a 'political tone' to win votes at all costs. If he really cared, he would not have to adjust his course so much as simply have a policy statement.

The guy just loves surrogates. He has no clue. He seeks to pay for his 'acquired wisdom.' He has no experience, even as Massachusetts Governor, with policies that work otherwise all this mess would not be necessary. He can probably speak Spanish, no different than French, so I don't understand why he is so cautious to wade in and get it right.

Romney does not impress me as a man that knows what he is doing so much as one with money to be doing what he is doing. I sincerely believe he is that 'rich kid' that gets what he wants because he has the money to buy it. That is what is happening here, Romney is purchasing his way to the White House. That is not presidential material. He is not qualified.

Romney camp aims to win over Hispanics (Click here)

June 09, 2012|Matt ViserGlobe Staff

WASHINGTON - Hispanic advisers to Mitt Romney have told him that it is vital that he soften the sharp rhetoric on immigration that he adopted during the Republican primary race and that he work to make inroads with one of the fastest-growing segments of the electorate.
Several advisers said it is evident that Romney is getting the message, and there are plans underway to make a push among Hispanic voters, who currently support President Obama by more than a 2-to-1 margin. The Romney campaign recently hired a full-time Hispanic outreach coordinator and has held several strategy meetings in Boston with Hispanic leaders.

Spanish-speaking surrogates are being trained, and there are ongoing talks with a major Hispanic advertising firm to work on new television ads that are aimed at Spanish-speakers.
With a bit of irony, the campaign is also reaching out to a group that combines two constituencies that Romney has fared poorly with in the past: Hispanic evangelicals....

Illegal immigrants from Mexico are impoverished and can easily be considered refugees.

Insummary, an estimated 12.6 million (click here) LPRs lived in the United States on January 1, 2008. One-half obtained LPR status in 2000 or later; one-quarter became LPRs during 2005-2007....

...Mortality. LPRs were survived to 2008 by age (when LPR status was obtained) and gender using mortality rates by age and sex from 1989-91 life tables (National Center for Health Statistics, 1997). The median age of foreign nationals at the time they become LPRs is about 32 years (Monger and Rytina, 2009). As a result, mortality has very little impact on the estimates for recent LPRs but a greater impact for those who became LPRs during the 1980s...

Now. If people have come to this country illegally and stayed while working with a Social Security card, but, have not achieved a green card, don't ya think they should?

...Immigrants adjusting to LPR status as refugees, Lautenberg parolees, or through cancellation of removal also receive credit for residence in the United States prior to the actual grant of lawful permanent residence based, respectively, on the date of entry into
the United States as a refugee, the date of parole, and the date of cancellation of removal....

Ya see, refugees are allowed to be in the USA to ADJUST to immigrant status. They go through background checks and all that mess and low and behold they become citizens.

SO, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ALREADY? If the illegals from Mexico, you know the HISPANICS, aren't refugees, then I don't know who is, because all of them are escaping from poverty.

Border Patrol Officer Wades Through Debris Left Behind On Coyote Trail

...A DHS survey (click here) of 1,000 legal permanent residents (green card holders) revealed that 30 percent had previously been illegal and that 31 percent of that group had overstayed non-immigrant visas. These statistics drive home the point that huge numbers of foreign nationals are succeeding in convincing American consular officers that they are bona fide tourists, when in fact they are intending immigrants. Despite the importance of visas to our immigration problem, all of the major American presidential candidates still frame the illegal immigration crisis solely in the context of securing the border with Mexico, and no candidate has mentioned the need to tighten our visa regulations....

USA Visas have nothing to do with illegal immigration and the people already here and working for USA businesses.

An Immigrant Visa (click here) category is determined by the type of petition filed on behalf of the beneficiary that is approved by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Depending on the visa category, an immigrant visa is either immediately available or is numerically limited by law. For immediate relatives of U.S. citizens (IR category), visa numbers are immediately available once the petitions filed on their behalf are approved by the USCIS. Immediate relatives are parents, spouses and minor children (unmarried and under 21 years of age) of U.S. citizens. Each relative must have a separate petition filed on his/her behalf.

Willard Mitt Romney would know about R Visas, he enjoyed them while the Vietnam War was being waged and over 58,000 American troops died.

Published: Sunday, February 07, 2010, 7:00 AM
The number of Vietnam veteran deaths has almost doubled (click here) since 2001 and, according Department of Veterans Affairs' projections, will hit 103,890 this year -- approaching 300 a day. That's more than five times the average daily number of U.S. combat deaths during the peak casualty year of the war in 1968.

Willoughby, now 63 and a year older than the national average age of Vietnam vets, said three members of his old unit have died in the past five years, two from cancer and one from a heart attack.
That's why the North Olmsted veteran said the unit reunions have been changed from once every two years to annual affairs.
Time is catching up, and they know it.
Jim Quisenberry, a member of the local Joint Veterans Honor Guard, said he has been serving at an increasing number of funerals for fellow Vietnam vets in recent years.
"It's scary," said Quisenberry, 61, of Lakewood. "It seems like the 'Nam guys aren't going to be around a long time, not like their fathers."...

Willard Mitt Romney states the USA doesn't gran enough visas.

Romney believes in the border fence as if that is going to stop drug cartels, too. It won't.

So let me get this right, Romney wants more legal immigrants to work in the USA while it is suffering from under-educated and unemployed populous. Is that right? Well, President Obama would like to fill those jobs with Americans properly trained and educated to have a sustainable job.

Additionally, why would any capitalist, which Romney is, want to bring immigrants to the USA? For profit. Lower wages and increased profit margins that's why. And for Universities with any drop in resident attendance due to cost; they can receive a lot more money for immigrant students on a visa, too.

I do not trust his judgement. If he wants to increase the number of F visas, that sort of make sense, however, if this is simply a manner to admit illegals into the country then say that and bring it to the forefront of the immigration debate. Increasing the number of F(amily) Visas is also not going to solve the problem the USA is facing today.

And what is Willard Mitt going to do with the Americans crossing the border illegally for cheap energy?

...At the same time that unskilled workers (click here) are able to come here illegally, we do not grant enough visas to high-skill job creators and innovators seeking to come here legally. The system requires us to send away the great majority of the over 300,000 foreign students who are earning advanced degrees at U.S. universities. And it is too difficult for businesses to secure visas for foreign workers to make up for labor shortages and gaps in skills....

Here is a real twist of fate:
April 18 2011
Piedras Negras, Mexico – Recent events and rhetoric (click here) would lead a person to believe that the current border issue between Mexico and the United States is a recent phenomenon, though with any rudimentary understanding of history it’s clear that the issue is a longstanding one. For generations the battle between the two nations over the disposition of their border has been a contentious issue with both sides largely unhappy and totally unresolved as to what form the border should take....

...“We have been made very much aware of the growing cross border problems occurring in many border towns. We have had many reports of people crossing over from the United States into Mexico, apparently seeking inexpensive gasoline. Many of these individuals are not possessing correct paperwork and in fact are travelling across the border illegally, something we are determined to put a stop to,” said a Mexican government official. “Gasoline and oil are a precious resource and something very much close to the hearts of many Mexicans. We cannot tolerate individuals invading our sovereign space in order to exploit the hard work of the Mexican people. This is not simply an issue of economics, it is also one of sovereignty and something that we must change to protect the long term survival of our nation.”...

Above the law.

When Mitt Romney wasn't gay bashing kids (click here) whose hair he didn't like, Mitt Romney 's other favorite sick thing to do was to impersonate a police officer. In an exclusive article just released tonight by the National Memo, details emerge of a Mitt Romney who as a college freshman at Stanford University allegedly admitted to fellow dorm mates that he sometimes disguised himself as a police officer, and laid out on his bed was a Michigan state trooper's uniform....
What do you say about a man that thrills at wearing a Michigan State Police Officer Uniform? You know what strippers wear to bachelorette parties, right? Male stripper that is. You got it hand cuffs and all.

Okay, setting the obvious aside, a late uncle was a member of the Michigan State Police. His name was Paul Barrett. He went on to work as a detective and was involved with some unbelievable cases, like the straight A student that liked to kill coeds. He also went to retire from the detective unit and was then asked to work for the State of Michigan in Medicare fraud. He was more honored to do that. He worked there for awhile and reeled quite a few fraudulent MDs disguising as a drunk needing rehab. After he retired from the State of Michigan investigative unit, he went on to work for (I think) Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan doing the same darn thing he did for the State.

The community could not get enough of him. A brave Irishman to the core.

I could go on and on about stories he told, the favorite was about an inmate he placed in jail as a detective. His name was Leroy. Leroy would call Paul from time to time to keep himself straight so he could do his time without incident. Leroy was a safe cracker. He was a good safe cracker, so he was also a good to talk to about crimes. At any rate, Leroy was getting out of prison and he called my uncle to ask if he could find him a job. My uncle did. He called someone who had a car garage and asked if he had a safe in the building and the man said, "No." He then asked if he needed a mechanic and the man said, "Yes." Paul then asked if the garage owner would give Leroy a job and if he got out of hand he was to call. So, Leroy went to work. True story. When Paul called Leroy before he was to leave the prison, he stated, "Leroy, you have a job. Don't mess around and work for a living and don't let any of your old friends influence your life anymore. But, Leroy, don't call me again. I mean it." Leroy never called and Paul never heard from the garage owner about adversity.

The point is police officer do very dangerous work. They take the law seriously and expect others to do the same. I sincerely do not appreciate Romney's self aggrandizement to avoid what would normally be considered illegal in all other circles. Romney placed himself above the law, no doubt, because Daddy was governor and Mommy was running for office and his then girlfriend liked horses and looked like his Mommy.

Romney has been and is a rude individual that tells college students to borrow money from their parents, seeks a US House of Representative as a liaison for women's issues, practiced Leveraged Takeover without any regard to employees (union or no union) and tells the public in Iowa "Corporations are people." I don't like him and I sure as heck don't trust him.

The neighbors aren't happy. This is not a complaint about wealth, the neighbors already have that. This is not south central LA. The Romney's are lousy neighbors. They don't care about other people. They care about their own creature comforts and nothing else. They believe they are entitled to their luxury their way. There isn't anything else to say. "It is our time." Mrs. Romney.

ON Dunemere Drive, (click here) it seems as if just about everyone has a gripe against the owners of No. 311.
The elderly woman next door complains that her car is constantly boxed into her driveway. A few houses over, a gay couple grumbles that their beloved ocean views are in jeopardy. And down the street, a widow grouses that her children’s favorite dog-walking route has been disrupted.
Bellyaching over the arrival of an irritating new neighbor is a suburban cliché, as elemental to the life on America’s Wisteria Lanes as fastidiously edged lawns and Sunday afternoon barbecues....

A House Liaison to Women's Issues. You mean to tell me Romney has no clue and he is seeking a Liaison in the US House of Representatives for his campaign strategy. Is this ethical? It is a new one on me. Candidates for office can actually seek out elected officials to be on their staff? Seriously? Maybe no one could afford it until now. But, basically, Romney has no clue about women's issues. Wow. Massachusetts is awash with women movers and shakers, where was he for four years?

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney (click here) today named Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.) his House liaison, a major new role for the 5th-ranking House Republican who has become the face of the House GOP on women’s issues.
“She understands the impact of the economic challenges Americans face and the need to put our country on a better track. As a member of the leadership team in the House, she will be a helpful partner in our efforts to ensure our focus remains on the critical issue of economic security for all Americans,” Romney said in a statement.
In the new role, McMorris Rodgers joins Senate Republican Conference Vice Chairman Roy Blunt (Mo.), who has served as the leader of Romney’s endorsement whip team during the presidential primary campaign.
The pick comes as Democrats have ramped up attacks on the GOP over a contraceptive mandate issued by the Obama administration, disagreements over provisions in a new version of the Violence Against Women Act and a proposal by House Democrats to strengthen regulations against pay discrimination of women....

And then there is seamus, the immortal. And if you think for one moment Seamus is not immortal, he has his own page in Wikipedia (click here). But, from a freudian perspective, Seamus (on the roof) would have been in the same place as the red light on the roof of a Michigan State Trooper's car. I'm just sayin', ya know? I think Willard Mitt is a strange guy. There are diagnosis categories in the DSM-5 (click here).

b.   Self-direction: Unrealistic or incoherent goals; no clear set of internal standards.

That infamous and seemingly immortal (click here) tale of Mitt Romney crating his dog on the roof of his car during a 12-hour road trip has already weaseled its way into the narrative of the 2012 campaign and is now splashing its way onto America’s bookshelves.
Yep.

It is Sunday Night.
